Spring wire is a versatile and essential component used in various industries, from automotive to electronics, where its elastic properties are utilized for different applications. Stainless steel wire is a popular choice for spring production due to its corrosion resistance and strength. In this guide, we will explore the process of manufacturing spring wire through stainless steel wire drawing, a critical step in ensuring the wire meets the required specifications.

Spring Wire Production Process

(1) I-wheel unwinding/drawing and rolling tip

Semi-finished steel wires are unwound by means of an I-wheel in order to straighten the wire in the drawing process and to unwind the wire into the heat treatment furnace. The I-wheel is convenient and flexible to ensure that the subsequent processes are carried out continuously.

(2) Steel wire online pretreatment line (peeling and descaling + heat treatment)

Stripping and descaling utilizes mechanical methods to remove a small amount of rust from the steel surface.

(3) Lead bath quenching

Quenching is a key process in the production of medium and high carbon steel wire, steel wire through the quenching to get the Soxhlet organization, Soxhlet organization has a high tensile limit, drawing can be obtained after a good overall performance, to the finished spring wire to provide the required mechanical indicators, while reducing the spring wire in the production process of breaking the wire phenomenon, the lead bath quenching technology is still the best quenching medium to get the ideal Soxhlet organization, is the production of a number of Important spring steel wire and wire rope production of key technologies. Lead bath quenching treatment has the advantages of high strength and good plasticity, so that the spring wire can be cold-drawn to the required size of the finished product through a large compression rate and to achieve comprehensive mechanical properties, especially suitable for high-strength as the characteristics of the spring wire varieties.

Lead bath quenching is the steel into the molten lead for quenching and cooling to complete the process of tissue transformation, in order to obtain the appropriate organization so that it is easy to draw and obtain high quality of a common process. The project lead bath furnace adopts advanced fully enclosed settings, and the use of lead liquid covering agent, steel wire into the lead furnace, automatic temperature control at 550 ℃, 900 ℃ or so of steel wire once the contact with liquid lead, that is, be quickly cooled to the temperature of the lead liquid.

(4) Air cooling, water cooling

The temperature of the steel wire after quenching in the lead bath is generally about 550 ℃, air natural cooling for 6~7min, air-cooled steel wire continues to cool. Steel wire into the cooling pool, the temperature is reduced to below 70 ℃ into the pickling process.

(5) Descaling

In the production process of steel wire, after quenching and heat treatment of steel wire has a layer of oxide skin on its surface. Currently the conventional method of removing the oxide skin is to remove the quenched heat-treated steel wire through the hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid solution Mingpin hydrochloric acid solution to remove the oxide skin on the surface and at the same time to remove the surface stains and so on, in order to carry out subsequent processing.

(6) Double rinsing water washing

With room temperature and high pressure tap water before and after the double rinse way to clean the steel wire surface, remove the residual acid, countercurrent discharge.

(7) Activation water washing

Activation is mainly for adsorption on the surface of the spring wire chloride ions are further removed by cleaning, while the priority adsorption on the surface of the wire, so that the surface tension limit is reduced, so that the later formation of the phosphating film performance is more excellent, rinsed steel wire is again cleaned with tap water to ensure that the steel wire is clean.

(8) phosphating

Activated steel wire into the phosphating tank, the use of zinc phosphating solution on the steel wire phosphating treatment, the formation of phosphating film on the surface of the steel wire, play a role in rust prevention and subsequent treatment for the role of pretreatment, and greatly improve the drawing performance of steel wire.

(9) hot water washing

After phosphating the steel wire with high pressure tap water to clean the surface of the steel wire to remove residual acid. The tap water is automatically temperature controlled at 65~75℃.

(10) Saponification

Saponification can make the steel wire surface phosphating film in the pores filled, and ultimately form a closed film to improve the corrosion resistance of the phosphating film, lubrication.

(11) Drying wire

Saponification of steel wire using oven drying temperature, after drying through the spooler take-up.

The production process of stainless steel spring wire through wire drawing is a precise and controlled operation. Starting with the selection of high-quality stainless steel, the wire undergoes cleaning, annealing, and multiple drawing steps to achieve the desired diameter. Optional intermediate annealing and surface treatments can further enhance the wire's properties based on specific applications. Thorough inspection and testing at the end of the process ensure that the spring wire meets the required standards for performance, durability, and reliability in various industrial applications.
