I need to make a spanner wrench, or a modified spanner wrench. The spanner ring is 99MM diameter, pin size for the hole is .234". A normal spanner wrench will not work as the part is hard to get to, it needs to be made from round stock. The spanner ring is adjustable, and has the same type spanner ring on a adjustable "bushing". I hope that's enough info for my question.
What type of material would be best to make this spanner wrench from ? The wrench I have planned out so far is 7" length 1"-1.5" diameter, knurled. One more thing it will be in a high humidity environment.
I thought about looking on ebay for a piece of Titanium, but I'm not sure how Titanium would hold up to breaking the spanner nut loose, as I said it's brass, but still you have some baboons who like to over tighten things, also the extra weight of steel would be helpful with the force needed for breaking the spanner nut loose. One outside source had one made that works very well, no idea of type of steel used, however it is 4" long, 3/4" diameter and blued. He mentioned it is great, but needs to be a bit longer because of the leverage needed (however it works great other than that) I'm making one for myself and thought I would beef it up a bit, knurl it for extra grip, and of course use some kind of exotic material just for the "it's mine" self esteem.
