The main feature of the profile extrusion process is the continuous mixing of the blowing agent (CO2) into the molten polymer. Compounds of various components are prepared in a mixer. It is then conveyed to a metering device, which feeds the mixture into an XPS extruder.
The mixture was heated to the melting point temperature of polystyrene. Afterwards, CO2 is added to the molten polymer mixture to act as a blowing agent. This is necessary to produce solid extruded foams.
The resulting mixture of polymer and gas is further mixed and cooled by means of special cooling devices. These units are designed to work under high pressure. The mixture is then forced through a special mould (matrix) to make the desired profile shape.
The extruder head is optionally designed for single-stream or two-stream profile xps lines. After the foam is extruded, the profile is guided through a mandrel to form the final shape. Additionally, the profiles are cooled to maintain the desired shape and size of the xps product.
Before cutting, the contours are marked by an online printing unit. The foam profiles are cut to the desired length with millimeter precision by an automatic cutting machine. Finally, it is transported to the area where it is ready for packaging.
