This particular machine is used for copper or aluminum tubing and can cut and straighten to a pre-determined length. I initially ordered this tubing straightener as a handy tool to have if the need arose. My husband put it away in the shop before we could test it and we almost forgot about it. That is until we recently needed to reroute the copper water line for a new fridge. We started out trying to straighten the line by hand; then the light went on and we remembered this tool. Wow! It wasn't super quick, but it sure saved our arthritic hands. We had to run it through twice, but the tubing came out straight and we were able to make the new run as if from scratch. It also saved us a trip to the hardware store; since we are quite rural, going into town is a big undertaking. Once the new water line was run and the water turned on, and while we had the tool out, I asked my husband to try it on other metal tubing. He has made several stainless steel bicycle accessories, so he tried it on some 1/4" stainless that he had. That was a bit more challenging and took several more passes through the rollers, but he eventually got it straight enough to reuse a bent piece of tubing for a front rack he is making. Overall, this tool seems well made and performed well for us.
