Yep. Had to go down the street to the local supply because you didn't have the right fitting because a regular fitting wouldn't work.



Therefore, street fittings always indicated a trip down the "street".

this is my understanding of the term. when a water main was being run down a street, the installers would install a tee in front of every house. these tee's would always be left with the branch facing up so that an elbow could be screwed into it and aimed at the house. the elbows that were used had a male thread on one end.
that is at least one explanation of the term "street elbow".

And if the supply house was next door, they were called "next door" elbows.

I have a 2" copper "double" street 90. The guy at the supply house gave it to me. I mostly just show other plumbers. If the situation comes along where it will get me out of a jam I will surely use it. GOOD LUCK

Where in the world did you find a 'double street ell???? Some days I'd give my left one to have a sweat 'double street ell. You are one lucky plumber.
