Hollow core slab made by extruder: A new perspective on production

The construction industry is constantly looking for innovative technologies to optimize processes, improve the quality of building materials and shorten production times. One such technology is the extruder-made hollow core slabs.

How an extruder works:

An extruder is a device designed to produce floor slabs by extruding concrete through a matrix. The use of extruder in the production of reinforced concrete allows to create floor slabs without the use of formwork, which in turn saves time and resources.

Advantages of hollow core slabs produced by extruder:

  • Time saving: the production of floor slabs with extruders takes considerably less time than with traditional formwork. This is due to the fact that the extruder can form the hollow core slabs continuously, without interruptions for setting up and dismantling the formwork.
  • Material savings: the mould-free moulding process uses less material than the traditional method. This is because the extruder can form the floor slabs with less concrete by increasing the size of the void formers (sleeves).
  • Improved quality: Slabs produced using the slab-forming method without mold by extruder are of higher quality than those produced using the traditional method. This is due to the fact that the extruder ensures a more uniform distribution of the concrete mix over the entire surface of the slab.
  • Improved working conditions: Extruded slab production is safer and more comfortable for workers than traditional production. This is due to the fact that there is no need to work with formwork, which can be traumatic.

Production process

The production process of hollow core slabs by means of an extruder consists of the following steps:

  1. Preparation of the concrete mix: The concrete mix for the production of hollow core slabs must have a certain strength and plasticity. To achieve this, special additives are added to the concrete mix.
  2. Loading the concrete mix into the extruder: the concrete mix is loaded into the extruder through the feed hopper.
  3. Forming the slab: the concrete mix is extruded through the nozzle holes of the extruder, which moves on rails.
  4. Slab curing: after casting, the slab cures for a certain period of time under the influence of elevated temperature.

After curing, the hollow core slab is ready for transport and installation.

Types of hollow core slab

Various types of hollow core slab can be produced in the extruder casting process, including:

  • Width.
  • Height.
  • Length.

Extruder casted hollow core slab is a promising technology that has the potential to revolutionize the manufacturing industry. It combines high productivity, resource efficiency and improved quality of reinforced concrete products. The development and implementation of such innovations contributes to the overall progress in the construction sector, making it more cost-effective, faster and environmentally sustainable.
